History

Sylmar Farm is a family owned horse farm started by Ronnie and Betsy Houghton and has been in business for 50 years.   Ronnie and Betsy started by training horses from New York to Camden, SC.  They eventually settled into Rising Sun, MD where Sylmar Farm was started.  After outgrowing that area, they found there final destination at 151 Maple Shade Road, Christiana, PA 17509 over 40 years ago.  The farm has grown from the original 280 acres up to over 480 acres and is located in beautiful Southern Lancaster County. 

FACILITY

The farm houses about 150 horses from Mares and Foals to Weanlings, Yearlings and Racehorses.  The farm consists of a 5/8th mile training track, 4 training barns with 2 indoor riding areas, Mare Barn, 2 Hotwalkers, and Starting Gate with 20 employees.  Sylmar Farm has 40 stalls for training at Penn National with 10 employees

FAMILY

The Houghton family consists of Betsy Houghton, Bernie and Shannon Houghton, Scott and Robin Perry, Wendy and Travis Kinnamon, and Michael and Melissa Houghton with tons of kids.  Ronnie passed away in 2018, however, his presence is seen everywhere you look because we maintain the high standards and the love he had for the farm
